Featured Articles, John Moore — By jmoore on March 8, 2010 at 4:17 pmNGC 2403, a face-on spiral galaxy in the constellation Camelopardalis, is a member one of the M81 group of galaxies. Although a conspicuous galaxy it was missed by Charles messier when he compiled his catalogue and its discivery is attributed to William Herschel (in 1788).
NGC 2403 is located approximately 12Mly away. Evidence that relatively young stars exist in the halo of NGC 2403 hints at a recent merger with another galaxy.
Total exposure 4.8hrs with a Celestron C11
