Open actions from last meeting

  1. Alternative to Alice Holt with greater flexibility on dates, e.g. Bordon.

 Action: Explore possibility of Bordon/Crondall site(s) – AC – Bordon contact not available – No progress.

Action: Bentley Playing Fields looks like a suitable ad-hoc alternative – SB – Complete

Action: at next monthly meeting check members enthusiasm for observing events at Alice Holt/Bentley/ACC either on weekends or midweek – SB

Action: Request permission for Christmas Star Party at ACC in December – JR

 

  1. Re-introduce the Welcome Pack for members – AC

 

Action: Refreshed Welcome Pack has been circulated to the committee, comments required by 10th September – AC

Action: When items such as library list refreshed updated on the website the date shows “November 10th 2011” not the refresh date – DT – Complete.

Action: Welcome Pack to be available to members via hidden download on website. – DT – Complete

Action: Welcome Pack in A5 booklet form for issue to new members. Cost estimate for 25. – AC

Suggestions:

Maybe call it “Members Handbook 2020” rather than version number. -DT

Telescope list on the website rather than handbook – EG

“Members under 18 must be accompanied by an adult member of the society who signs the attendance sheet.”

  1. Observing events – SB

Action: Schedule of observing events for 2019/2020 to be refreshed and agree with Alice Holt – KP/DT – Complete

Action: Publish observing events in Newsletter and Facebook – KP/CR – Complete

Action: Upcoming astronomical events to be notified to members via monthly observing newsletter – SB – Complete

Action: Practical telescope observing, if clear or collimation etc. if overcast at ACC after monthly meetings. Encourage members to bring telescopes they require assistance with. – SB – Complete

Action: Red lights (DT) and signs (KP) to mark parking areas and observing areas. – KP/DT

  1. Review PLI whether FAS supplied PLI provides sufficient cover – DT

Action: Investigate scope of PLI with SAGAS. The current policy is due for renewal in April 2020. Clarification required of current cover provided by FAS before deciding how to proceed. – JR

Action: Electrical equipment to be PAT (Portable Appliance Testing) tested. – JR

  1. Thirty members have not renewed in 2019 – is there something we should do? – RS

Action: Greater mix of speakers plus some practical demonstrations – KP – Complete

Action: Club nights at ACC with beginner/practical sessions after talks (see 3 above) – KP – Complete

Action: Review society’s constitution and circulate to committee with recommendations. – AC – complete

Action: Further amendments raised by committee members to be discussed and confirmed at 4th November meeting. Issued to members at least 14 days before AGM where they need approval by a quorum of members. – All
