If you’re a current member of the society and would like to borrow or hire any equipment from our collection of telescopes, then please speak to our Telescope Custodian at one of our monthly meetings, who will help you find a telescope from our collection, that is well-suited to your needs, situation, and level of experience.
Please note that higher-value items will generally not be available for loan to beginners, junior members, or recent joiners and that our Custodian may decline a loan request if they have any concerns. The normal loan period will be 1 calendar month. This can be extended by agreement, subject to the discretion of the Custodian, and there being no other members waiting for the same equipment. All loan equipment will normally be collected and returned by the member at one of our regular monthly meetings (else by arrangement with the Custodian).
Before borrowing equipment please read the conditions of loan at the bottom of the page.

Conditions of Loan:
- Only fully paid-up members of the Society are eligible to take equipment on loan.
- If a person ceases to be a member of the society, then any equipment hired or borrowed must be promptly returned.
- A deposit and/or monthly fee may be required for higher-value items. Note that most of our entry-level or mid-range equipment is available for loan free of charge.
- Society events will always take precedence; if an event occurs whilst equipment is on loan the member will make the equipment available for collection (it will be returned to the member as soon as reasonably possible after the event).
- It is the member’s responsibility to look after loan equipment and take care to protect the equipment from damage or theft. Any loss or damage must be reported to the Custodian at the earliest opportunity.
- The Society makes the equipment available on the understanding that the member takes full responsibility for any damage or injury that may occur whilst using or transporting the equipment including damage to lenses, cameras or any other equipment used in conjunction with the loan equipment..
- The Member agrees that the Society and its Officers have no responsibility for any injury, loss or damage, howsoever caused, resulting from the use of the loan equipment.
- Under no circumstances should members attempt to clean optical surfaces. If there is any problem with the optics please contact the Custodian or one of the committee members.
- The Society takes no responsibility for any lack of clear skies!
